 Modeling Career

During her third year of primary school, Kiko Mizuhara decided that she would work in fashion as a model and a designer. She was determined to make that a reality. In fact, she became miss Seventeen Japan in 2003 and worked exclusively for the magazine for three years before becoming ViVi’s cover girl and exclusive model. The rest, as we know it, is history.

Mizuhara is now an internationally known model adored by some of the biggest names in fashion such as Marc Jacobs, Anna Dello Russo and Karl Lagerfeld, whom she has referred to as “God.” She regularly appears on international editions of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Nylon, Elle, GQ, L’Officiel etc. She has also shot ad campaigns for Shiseido, Diesel, Unqilo, Vivience Tam, Phillip Lim and many more.

It was her appointment as a Chanel ambassador that brought the 5-foot-6 model to a new height of stardom, making her Asia’s top fashion “it girl.” Karl Lagerfeld himself photographed Mizuhara for the French label’s The Little Back Jacket campaign. In case you didn’t know, it does not get any better than that for a model’s career.

Opening Ceremony Collaboration

You know you’ve made it when Opening Ceremony knocks on your door and asks to collaborate. Kiko Mizuhara has had not one but four fashion affairs with the forward-thinking brand as part of their global development. Fans all over Asia have been able to (literally) acquire a piece of style from this fashion icon. What does that mean for Mizuhara? She can now add Fashion Designer on her already impressive resume.

A Rising Movie Star

What would a girl do when she accomplished her childhood dream of working in fashion? She moved on to an equally glamorous career – acting.

KiKo Mizuhara made her acting debut in the much-anticipated adaptation of Haruki Murakami’s Norwegian Wood, directed by Tran Anh Hung. She played an outgoing, vivacious and supremely self-confident girl much like herself in real life. Both Mizuhara and the film received very mixed reviews from critics and the audience. However, the starlet’s career definitely took a better turn.

Mizuhara also appeared in I’m Flash! (Toshiaki Toyda) and Platinum Data (Keishi Otomo). It’s also confirmed that she will take part in the live-action film Attack on Titan set to be released this summer.

Like many of her fans, I think the most attractive quality in Kiko Mizuhaa is her ability to relate to millions of people. She grew up in a broken home (her parents got divorced when she was 13) and she has shown great strength and work ethic to get to where she is today. Even with such fame and attention, she still remains very approachable. You don’t want to be her (though you’d love to); you just want to be with her. I can clearly see it in my imagination – my new BFF Kiko and I making a quick stop at Bergdorf on our way to brunch at Estela to discuss her next fashion week appearance.
